The biggest takeaway I got from this article is simply how unfair something like the food system can be. It simply doesn’t make sense that the people providing the majority of foods for others are also people who struggle providing food for themselves. Many farmers face this injustice and it’s sad to see that the system is built this way. Farmers are being taken for granted their hard work isn’t being appreciated and many people opt for more convient options that include processed foods. It makes me wonder more how have we let large industries grow so large that we forget about where our food had originally started. Is it neglect, people just not caring where the food they consume everyday comes from. I also find this reading relevant to an curent issue going on just besides food justice which is immigration and racism. It talks how many farmers come from minorities and already face systematic racism upon enertering the U.S workforce. Currently there is dispute over immigration policies and k think many forget that after all is said and done we are all people. We all not only want but need safe homes and decent food. I wonder how will our future farmer survive with the spreading of cities and industrialization. I think small farms should be preserved not transformed into commercialized farms trying to grow everything everywhere because it’s just not possible. The quality of food will be forgotten along with those who need help the most.
