There was a lot of information in this article. I felt like it was harder to figure out than her ted talk. I don’t agree with neoliberalism because everything shouldn’t be this difficult. I feel like when we as humans are choosing who gets to eat healthy organic food and who doesn’t then we have really hit a low point. This article talks about how low income families and communities of color have a hard time accessing farmers markets. We are all living breathing beings that need food to survive so why are we being so separated to the point that only some people get to have access healthy food.
I stand by the movements that are trying to change this. Everyone-no matter age, race, ethnicity deserves to have organic healthy foods whenever they need it. We need to change this. I think that it’s crazy that this is even an issue. We need to shift to more community driven initiatives and make sure everyone has access to affordable, healthy food.
She also talks about environmental degradation. This is also an issue that we need to change too. If our soil is loosing organic matter and fertility then that could lead to us not getting our crops to grow or get the nutrients we need in the crops. We use so many pesticides and chemicals to grow our food but it’s just harming us and the soil and land. We need to go back to traditional farming methods that keep the proper nutrients in the soil.
All in all, we have a lot to change about food security. We need to stop being so divided and stand up to make sure everyone gets access to affordable, healthy and sustainable food options.
